Bertlett L. "Bert" Leiby, 91, of Bloomsburg, died Tuesday afternoon, June 20th, 2017 at his home.

Born December 21, 1925 in Ralpho Township, Northumberland County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Jeanetta (Watkins) Leiby.  He and his wife, Jane H. (Mowery) Leiby, would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on August 5th.

Mr. Leiby was a graduate of Ralpho Township High School in Elysburg.  He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army as a Corporal in the Korean War, spending 10 months in Korea. 

He had been employed by Magee Carpet Company for 25 years, Catawissa Lumber and the AC&F in Milton.  He last worked for Knoebel's Lumber Company where he retired from in 1987.  Following his retirement, he worked part time for Knoebel's Campground for 18 years.

Mr. Leiby was an active member of the Catawissa First United Methodist Church where he was chairman of the trustees and served on the Church Council.

An avid outdoorsman, his hobbies included hunting, fishing and sports.  He enjoyed playing baseball while in school and he was an avid Phillies fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Jane, are his two children:  Bert L. Leiby and his wife, Sue, of Bloomsburg; Bonnie Leiby of Bloomsburg; five grandchildren:  Heidi Paulson, Kristie Pennypacker, Brandi Bacon, Michael Leiby and Douglas Leiby; four great grandchildren:  Alexa, Chase, Brick and Broody; a brother, James Leiby and his wife, Velma, of Danville; two sisters:  Esther Snyder and her husband, Doyle, of Bloomsburg; Dora Oman and her husband, Gene, of Bloomsburg and a sister-in-law, Nancy Leiby, of Elysburg.  Also surviving is a nephew whom they helped to raise, Neil Mowery and his wife, Cheryl, of Iowa as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. "Bob" Leiby on Jan. 13, 2016; three sisters:  Helen Molz on July 19, 2013; Florence Geraldine Horne on April 18, 2013 and Margaret Williams on Mar. 14, 2006.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 30th, 2017 at 11 AM at the Catawissa First United Methodist Church, 228 South Street, Catawissa, with his Pastor, Rev. Susan Rogutski, officiating.  Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge with Military Honors.  Friends and Relatives will be received at the Church on Friday, June 30th from 10 AM until the time of the Service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Catawissa First United Methodist Church, 228 South Street, Catawissa, PA 17820.  For online condolences or for additional information, please visit our website:  www.mcmichaelfuneralhome.com
