Welcome to the memorial page for

Clyde E. "Deter" Deitrick, Jr.

June 23, 2016

Clyde E. "Deter" Deitrick, Jr., also known as "Sonny", 86, passed away Thursday morning, June 23rd, 2016 at the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a patient since Friday.

Deter was the son of the late Clyde Deitrick, Sr. and his wife, Sarah Beatrice (Dent) Deitrick. He was born in Espy and raised in his treasured town of Orangeville. For the past 66 years he resided in Bloomsburg.

Deter was known to all as a gentle, kind and compassionate man--always smiling, always eager to lend a hand. He was enthusiastic about music and knew the words to most any song he heard. As a young man, Sonny found his passion for baseball. A talented pitcher, he played ball into his 40's. Some of his best memories are of his old baseball buddies. As much as he loved baseball, he also loved his cottage along Fishing Creek in Orangeville. He said he cried twice a year--once when he moved in for the summer and once when he left in the fall. Many wonderful memories were made on the dock along the creek. He and Nancy were famous for their picnics--sometimes over a hundred people would attend.

He worked 43 years at the Magee Carpet Company in Bloomsburg as an electrical foreman. His greatest accomplishment was being a devoted husband and grandfather. The love and admiration of his family and friends is a tribute to how he lived his life for others.

Deter is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nancy (Foust) Deitrick; his four children; James (Janis) Deitrick, Washington, NC; Cindy Kline (Jim), Orangeville; Vickie Robinson (Danny), Bloomsburg and Melanie Standley (Mike), Aurora, NC. He also has four grandchildren: Julie Huynh, Washington, NC; Jeremy Deitrick, Clayton, NC; Ryan Kline, Orangeville; Chuck Umstead, Jr., Bloomsburg and two great grandchildren: Elijah Huynh, Washington, NC and Jaylin Deitrick, of Clayton, NC. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Deitrick, of Orangeville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert and a grandson, James Deitrick, Jr.

Remember Deter when you hear one of his favorite songs--"Misty" or "Twilight Time", or when you hear the crack of a baseball bat in the spring or any time that you drive through Orangeville along Fishing Creek. He'll be there. In the Fall there will be a celebration of Deter's life at his cottage.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., Benton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Orangeville Fire hall or the Orangeville Little League.  For online condolences or for additional information, please visit our website: www.mcmichaelfuneralhome.com
