David J. Serra

David J. Serra, 77, of St. Gabriels Road, Benton, (P. O. Box 700) died peacefully Friday morning, April 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family and his faithful companion, Gracie.  He had been in ill health for the past two years.

He was born February 2, 1940 in New York.  He and his wife, Judith "Judy"    Anne (Gall) Nocchi Serra, were married July 1, 2004. 

Mr. Serra attended Berwick Schools and faithfully served his country in the U. S. Navy.

He was employed as a correctional officer at the Columbia County Prison for many years and after that worked as a deputy sheriff for Columbia County.

Mr. Serra was a member of the Millville American Legion.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He also volunteered as a cook at the Christian Covenant Church in Jonestown for their summer children's camp.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  A passionate dog lover he loved spending time with his constant companion, Gracie.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Judy, are his two children:  David M. Serra and his wife, JoAnne, of Berwick; Susan Serra, of  Maine.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren and three stepchildren:  Mark S. Nocchi, of Benton; Christopher S. Nocchi and his wife, Carrie, of Orangeville and Diana C. Marabell and her husband, Michael, of Tunkhannock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie (Styers) Serra.

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family under the direction of the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton.  Contributions may be made in his memory to the S.
