Elaine L. Moss, 64, of Moss Road, Benton, died Monday, December 11, 2017 at Bonham Nursing Center where she had been a resident since June.

Born March 3, 1953 in Vestal, New York, she was a daughter of the late Kermit C. Moss and Betty R. (Wilkinson) Moss.

She grew up on a farm with her four siblings.  She attended Huntington Mills Elementary School and Northwest Area High School.  She was also a graduate of Williamsport Nursing School.

Elaine spent 30+ years as a mental health nurse in Davenport, Iowa.  She taught CPR and other in-service classes and was recognized for her leadership in mental health in the Quad Cities area.

Returning to Pennsylvania in 2014, Elaine had taken family medical leave to care for brother Rick, when he entered hospice.  After Rick passed away, she remained in Luzerne County to care for father, Kermit, who passed away in 2016.  Elaine had planned, before becoming ill, to return to Iowa, anticipating the birth of her first grandchild.

Elaine was funny, smart, with a quick biting wit.  She loved fine coffee and many books.  Her favorite place to shop was the book store.  Sometimes she would read 3 or 4 a weekend, especially detective/mystery novels.  Elaine was a cat person and appreciated having her four footed friends curl up with her while reading.  She enjoyed writing poetry and collecting elephants.  She had many good and loyal friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Rick and nephew Jeremy.

Elaine is survived by son, Dana Moss-Peterson (Lindsay Achenbach) and granddaughter, Marceline; sisters:  Linda Moss (John Murray), Benton; Joyce Moss (Jeff Curry), of Cheltenham; a brother, Ron Moss (Diane), of Midland, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
