Welcome to the memorial page for

Karl N. Hess

August 4, 1922 ~ December 31, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Karl passed into his eternal reward with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on December 31, 2017.  Karl will be greatly missed, as he won his final victory after living a very full life for 95 years.  He was born August 4, 1922 in Register, PA, to the late Nathan and Nettie (Kale) Hess.  Karl graduated from Huntington Mills High School in the Class of 1942.  He was Vice President of his class.

In the early years of his life, he helped his father on the family farm.  He later bought the farm from his father.  He had a love of farming, which made him an excellent farmer.  He also ran a sawmill and planing business.  Sawing lumber for his neighbors and mainly the State park area brought many dreams to pass.  As a child, he made a model sawmill with spools and rubber bands, but this dream came to pass when he purchased a Frick sawmill and planer.

Karl had a real love for the Lord Jesus Christ.  After accepting Christ as his Lord and Saviour, he served his Master in many capacities.  He served as Sunday School teacher and deacon in various churches in the area.  His pride and joy service was holding a Bible study every Wednesday evening in some neighbor's home in the community.

Until his illness prevented it, Karl regularly attended Cornerstone Bible Church, where he loved and enjoyed Pastor Jim Winder and members of the Church.  Karl was a kind man with a huge heart serving anyone he could.

Karl is survived by his wife, of 66 years, the former Helen Brace.  They shared a full life together, working side by side in every phase of life.  He is also survived by one son, Dr. Karl George, and his wife, April and grandsons, Nathaniel and Zachary, who he dearly adored, as well as one sister, Grace Kleintob, and several nieces and nephews.  He also had an extended family, which he dearly loved and adored.  They were very near and dear to his heart and spent many happy years on the farm.  Tammy and husband, Don Hopper, children, Don Jr., and Jessica, of Shickshinny; Scott Ballard and wife, Amy, children Justin and Emily, of Waymart; Shawn Ballard and wife Jen, daughters, Julia and Jordan Ballard, of West Pittston; son Jeffrey Ballard and wife, McKenzie, of Shamokin.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were one brother, Josiah Hess, killed in World War II and sisters, Genevieve, Ethel and Letha.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Erwine Home Health Association for the wonderful care he received over the past few months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, if desired, may be made in Karl's name to the Cornerstone Bible Church, 208 Church Road, Nescopeck, PA 18635.
