Nadja A. Yonick, 92, of Ruth Ann Drive, Berwick, died Tuesday evening, January 9, 2018 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Decease.

She was born July 17, 1925 in Przemysl, northern Poland, near the border of Ukraine.  She was raised in Simferopol, a port city near the Black Sea. A Holocaust survivor; she met her husband, Joseph S. Yonick, whom she married on May 27, 1947 in the First Infantry Headquarters, Kornwestheim, Germany, where he was stationed after World War II.

In her younger years, Mrs. Yonick had been employed by Berwick Industries.  Her hobbies included traveling, crocheting, going to see Broadway shows, and finding treasures at Ted Stuban’s Auction Hall.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Joseph, are her two children:  Michael Yonick, of Berwick; Nancy Dellegrotto, of Shickshinny; two grandsons:  Lawrence Dellegrotto, Jr. and his partner Carrie, of Berwick; Joseph Dellegrotto, of North Carolina, and a great granddaughter, Serena Rae Dellegrotto, of Berwick.

Along with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kaspirkewitsch, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, who died during World War II.

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family at McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton.  Burial will be in Dodson Cemetery, Southdale.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 57 N.
