Robert Raphael "Bob" Maynes

Robert Raphael "Bob" Maynes, 96, of Benton, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at his home.

Born November 23, 1921 in Allentown, he was a son of the late Robert and Josephine (Moessner) Maynes.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn A. (Price) Maynes, of 67 years, on January 1, 2014.  

Mr. Maynes faithfully served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a Motor Machinist's Mate Second Class.  He had been awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbons with 4 stars; the American Theatre Ribbon; the European Theatre Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star.

He was a graduate of Muhlenburg College in Allentown and was employed as an Executive for the Boys Scouts of America until his retirement in 1984.  He was also camp director for Camp Lavigne for many years. He, himself, was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Mr. Maynes was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church of Benton where he served as a Lector and an usher.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Third Degree; the Benton V. F. W. and the World War II Luncheon Group.

His hobbies included woodworking and building furniture; spending time with his computer and he was an avid reader. 

Surviving, are his wife, Nancy J. (Permigiani) Wisbar, whom he married October 10, 2015.  Also surviving are his four children:  Ann Conrad and her husband, Wayne Nettleton, of Liberty, NY; Mary Jo Maynes and her husband, Ron Aminzade, of St. Paul, MN; Robert Maynes and his wife, Kathy, of Camden, Maine; William Maynes and his wife, Joan, of New York City; his step daughter, Beverly Joy Wisbar and her husband, Graham Paul, of Baltimore, MD.   Also surviving are five grandchildren:  Mary Kay, Daniel, Elizabeth, Katie and Tim;  six great grandchildren:  Luke, Riley, Jenna,  Zoe, Ellie and Elise ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Along with his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Price and by two brothers:  William Maynes and J. David Maynes. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at 11 AM at Christ The King Catholic Church, Mendenhall Lane, Benton, with Msgr. Robert E. Lawrence, as Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Sugarloaf Township with military honors conducted by a joint veteran's group.  Viewing, Saturday, from 10 AM until the time of the service at the Church.   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Christ the King Catholic Church, P. O. Box 297, Benton, PA 17814.
