William P. "Bill" Wetzel

William P. "Bill" Wetzel, 96, of rural Millville (Mt. Pleasant Township), died early Saturday morning, October 28, 2017 at his home.

Born July 23, 1921 in Allentown, he was a son of the late Robert B. and Alena (Sauer) Wetzel.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Snyder) Wetzel on February 10, 2004.

Mr. Wetzel attended schools in Allentown.  He then faithfully served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. 

For many years, he worked for the Singer Company in sales and service.  From 1974 to 2003, he owned and operated Bloomsburg Sewing Center, but continued working until this past August.

He was an active member of Canby Lutheran Church where he had served as Council President.  He was also a member of the Bloomsburg American Legion.

Mr. Wetzel loved to work and "tinker".  At age 85, he took flying lessons.  He was an avid reader, an artist, and self taught himself to play the guitar.   

Surviving, are his four children:  Bonita E. Hannis, of Lock Haven; Jeffrey B. Wetzel, of Bath, PA; Jinny S. Keifer and her husband, William, of Millville; and Kevin T. Wetzel and his wife, Ronaliz, of Hendersonville, NC; Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

Along with his parents and his wife, Virginia, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith P. Wetzel and by a sister, Grace Mumbauer Snyder.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11 AM at Canby Lutheran Church, 529 Millertown Road, Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Stanley L. Bower, his Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the Canby Cemetery with Military Honors.   Visitation will be Thursday, from 10 AM until the time of the service at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Canby Lutheran Church, 529 Millertown Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., Benton.  For online condolences or for additional information, please visit our website:  www.mcmichaelfuneralhome.com
