Debra J. Ruckel, 68, of Huntington Township, died Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born in Berwick on September 24, 1955, she was the daughter of Shirley J. (Hummel) Kershner and the late William F. Kershner.
Debra had attended Huntington Mills Elementary and Northwest High School before studying cosmetology at West Side Tech, from which she graduated in 1973. On June 16, 1973, she wed the love of her life, Edward P. Ruckel. Together they raised their family and shared 50 years of marriage. Debra was a hard worker who grew up working the family farm, waitressing, and babysitting. She worked at Jerelyn's Beauty Salon, as well as Milco Industries, Karen's Mfg, and Luzerne Outerwear. She had been a long-time employee of the White Haven Center, from which she retired in 2007. Debra liked animals and had numerous pets throughout the years. She adored boxers. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses. Debra also enjoyed Facebook and playing games. She loved spending time with her family and friends, by whom she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her mother, Debra is survived by husband, Edward P. Ruckel; son, William E. Ruckel and wife, Wendy, of Thornhurst; granddaughter, Ashten Ruckel, also of Thornhurst, and her extended family.
Preceding Debra in death, in addition to her father, are infant son, Edward P. Ruckel, Jr., who passed away March 10, 1974; grandparents: Gwen and Earl Kershner, Gene Huffnagle, and Flo and John Hummel; and nephew, Ralph Homyack.
