Kenneth Stephen "Kenny" Lewis, 72, of Jackson Township, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, April 5th, 2024.
Born September 20, 1951 in South Kingston, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late John Lewis and Deborah (Hyde) Lewis. He was the youngest of eight siblings.
He was a graduate of Chariho High School.
Kenneth "Kenny" was married to Cindy Lou (Koch) Lewis. Together they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on March 26th.
Kenny joined the USMC at the age of 17. He served in the Vietnam conflict until wounded. While serving, he earned his Lance Corporal title and served as Marine Squad Leader. He achieved numerous medals and awards, including a Purple Heart and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After his honorable discharge from the USMC, he owned his own garbage business and several apartment buildings. Kenny's proudest moment and greatest accomplishment was when he moved to Carlisle, PA and went to Elizabethtown College for Department of Correctional training. This allowed him to become Captain in 10 years at Camp Hill State Correctional Institution. During his employment he was taken hostage during the riot as Captain in 1989. He then transferred to the Muncy State Correctional Institution where he retired at the age of 45.
After retirement, Kenny enjoyed reading and watching westerns, along with watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. Kenny and Cindy built their home together in Benton.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Cindy, are his children Gregory Remley (Crystal), of Benton; Heather Burgess (Shawn), of Picture Rocks; Heidi Bogert (Leland), of Benton; Jennifer Lewis, Stephen Lewis, Sara Lewis and Heidi Lewis. Kenny was very proud of all his grandchildren: Matt, Tanner, Kody, Dyllyn, Nate, Joshua, Hunter, Leland, Brayden, Garrett, Angelina, Joshua, Jake, Gavin and Christopher. Kenny also had 8 great grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 11 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487) with Pastor Scott Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating. A Viewing will be held Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the Service at 11. Burial will be in the Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township, with full Military Honors.
