Doris (Naugle) Gordon, 92, of Benton Township, died early Friday morning, September 6, 2019 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital Emergency Room surrounded by her loved ones.
Born December 5, 1926 in Pikes Creek, Luzerne County, she was a daughter of the late William and Mildred (Sayre) Naugle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter R. Gordon, Sr., on April 7, 2002.
She was a 1944 graduate of Lehman High School. She assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm and also served as the Benton Township Clerk and Tax Collector for many years.
Mrs. Gordon was a longtime and active member of Jackson Baptist Church in Derrs where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and served as a Sunday School teacher and pianist.
In her younger years, she was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was known for her sewing, cooking, baking and canning. She also enjoyed attending sporting events that her family was involved in. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: Walter R. Gordon, Jr. and his wife, Deb; Cathy J. Gordon; Becky Fritz and her husband, Carl and Nancy E. Seltzer, all of Benton. Also surviving are her 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and by a sister, Alice Kuczawa, of Valley View and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol A. Chapin on May 6, 2012; a son, James W. Gordon, on December 11, 2011 and by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 11 A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with Pastor Walter E. Minto, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at McMichael's.
