Gary Bankert Obituary

Gary E. Bankert, 74, of Almedia, died Monday afternoon, November 5th, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born May 17, 1944 in Hanover, York County, he was a son of the late Herman Harry Bankert and Almena Ruth (Riley) Bankert.  He and his wife, Judith A. "Judy" (Rimel) Bankert, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on October 17th.

Gary was a 1962 graduate of South Western High School in Hanover.  He was employed by the P. H. Glatfelter Company in Spring Grove as a paper maker for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2003.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and reloading.  He enjoyed cars, motorcycles and loved to travel, visiting every state but Hawaii, but he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Judy, are his two sons:  Todd E. Bankert and his wife, Wanda, of Hanover; Scott D. Bankert and his wife, Diane, of Bloomsburg; two grandchildren:  Kayla Hicks and her husband, Shane, of New Oxford; Nicholas Bankert, of Hanover; two step grandchildren:  Giovanna Alvarez, of Ecuador and Hunter Pontier, of Riverdale, NJ; a great grandson, Kane Hicks and a sister, Nadine Fuhrman, of Hanover as well as two nephews.

Services will be held Friday, November 9th, 2018 at 11 AM at the Benton Christian Church, Third and Church Streets, Benton with the Rev. Dr. David A.
