Gary R. Good, M.D.

Dr. Gary R. Good, 62, of Bethany, Wayne County, died Friday evening, April 12th, 2019 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.

Born August 13, 1956 at the Nanticoke Hospital, he was a son of Ralph S. and Shirley M. (Hontz) Good, of rural Orangeville. 

Gary was a 1974 graduate of Benton High School.  He then attended the University of Pennsylvania from 1974 to 1976, Wilkes College from 1976 to 1978 and then the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in the British West Indies where he obtained his degree as an MD in 1988.

His graduate medical education was through the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg Hospital and the Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, NJ.

Much of his career in medicine was in the development of drugs for AIDS through pharmaceutical companies and most recently in research and development for drug addiction and hepatitis C.   He authored multiple research publications over the years for various pharmaceutical companies and was well known and respected in the field.

He was a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the HIV Medical Society, the American Academy of HIV Medicine and the Society of Healthcare Epidemiologists of America.

Gary was a member of the Jonestown United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, Ralph and Shirley Good are his three brothers:  Randy L. Good, Orangeville; David L. Good, of Stillwater and Brian K. Good and his wife, Karen, of Benton and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  He will be greatly missed by his friend, Bob Jacob and by his clinic nurse, Jane Moudrik. 

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret A. "Peggy" Homiak.

Services will be held Thursday, April 18th, 2019 at 12 Noon at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S.
