Lois Stere Obituary

Lois C. (Remley) Rhinard Stere, 91, of Anthony Court, Iron Street, Bloomsburg, died Sunday afternoon, January 28, 2018 at her home.

Born July 19, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Elvin and Esther (Miller) Remley.  She was preceded in death by her two husbands:  Vernon J. Rhinard on March 19, 1989 and Jay D. Stere, in February 2008.

She was a 1944 graduate of Benton High School and the Geisinger Memorial School of Nursing, Class of 1947.

Lois worked for two years at Geisinger Medical Center following graduation from nursing school there.  She was also an R. N. at the Rochester General Hospital for a short time and then worked as an R. N. at the Bloomsburg Hospital for 25 years, retiring on June 27, 1991.

She had been an active member of Jackson Baptist Church, Derrs, and after moving to Bloomsburg joined Calvary Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Town Hill Women's Temperance Union.  In her younger years, she was a den mother for Boy Scout Troop # 69 in Jonestown.  For many years she assisted with the American Red Cross Station at the Bloomsburg Fair and was a member of the Bloomsburg Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. 

Lois enjoyed being a homemaker and especially was known for the flowers that she grew, her cooking, baking and helping others.

Surviving are her four children:  Kathleen A. "Kathy" Albertson, of Orangeville; David W. Rhinard, of Orangeville; Craig H. Rhinard, of Benton, and Michael L. Rhinard, of Boise, Idaho.

Also surviving are six grandchildren:  Kimberly Fantanarosa, Brian Albertson, Bradley Albertson, Cameron Rhinard, Alison Woolcock, and Nicole Francisco and eight great grandchildren.  Also surviving are her sister-in-laws:  Carolyn Remley, Betty Remley and Marian Remley, all of Benton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the last member of her immediate family and along with her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by six siblings:   Herbert Remley, Edward Remley, Carl D. Remley, E. Lee Remley, Mary K. Jones and Jean Becker.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 2nd, 2018 at 1 PM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with Pastor Timothy G. Smith, officiating.  Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Fishing Creek Township.   A Viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM at McMichael's and Friday from 12 Noon until the time of the Service at 1:00.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 3300 Ridge Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.  For online condolences or for additional information, please visit: www.mcmichaelfuneralhome.com
