Richard E. "Dick" Spaid, 89, of Bloomsburg, went home to be with His Heavenly Father late Thursday evening, November 16, 2017 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center where he had been a resident since October 25th.

Born October 5, 1928 in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late Robert A. and Ethel (Larish) Spaid.   He and his wife, Joan E. (Parker) Spaid, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 6th.

He was a 1949 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.  He was quarterback of the 1946 football team and was proud of the fact that they were the first team to beat Berwick in 28 years.  He and his two brothers were Eagle Scouts and was known to be the first family in Bloomsburg to have three Eagle Scouts in one family.

Mr. Spaid faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army Engineers during the Korean War as a Sergeant.

He was a long time employee of Magee Carpet Company in Bloomsburg where he was superintendent of the spinning mill.  He later worked for Magee Glanz as a foreman in the warehouse.  He retired in 1990.

Mr. Spaid was a member of Bloomsburg Christian Church, the Bloomsburg American Legion, the Bloomsburg Antique Club and a former member of the Bloomsburg Elks.

He was known as "Mr. Peanut" and collected Planters Peanuts memorabilia.  He also enjoyed antiquing and attending area flea markets.

An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Joan, are his daughter, Holly Karnes, and her husband, Todd, of Benton; a grandson, Timothy Robert Karnes and his wife, Jenna, of Nescopeck and his beloved furry companion, Fergie.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers:  Robert and Raymond Spaid.

Services with military honors will be held Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 at 11 AM at the Bloomsburg Christian Church, 107 Duessen Drive, Bloomsburg.  Pastor Eric Miller and Timothy Karnes will be performing the service.  A Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11 at the Church.  Floral arrangements will be graciously accepted and/or  contributions may be made in his memory to the Bloomsburg Christian Church or to the LCBC Church.
