Shirley Avery Obituary

Shirley M. (Rhinard) Avery, 78, of Savage Hill Road, Orangeville, passed away early Friday morning, May 18th, 2018 following a six month illness battling COPD.

Born November 20, 1939 in Fishing Creek Township, she was a daughter of the late Orvie D. and Cora E. (Hess) Rhinard. 

Shirley was a 1957 graduate of Benton High School.  She lived in Orangeville most of her life.  She was the secretary for Fishing Creek Township for many years.  She also worked for Lyons Truck and Spring Service and Briar Creek Mutual.  She also helped on the family farm.  She attended the Orangeville United Church of Christ. 

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She cherished her family and the time she spent with them. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, crocheting, playing cards and doing puzzles.  She enjoyed walking and the outdoors.  She was an avid NASCAR fan.  She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends in Florida.

She married the love of her life on June 21, 1958, William A. Avery, Jr. who preceded her in death on June 26, 2011.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers Warren W. Rhinard and spouse Esther;  H. Kenneth Rhinard and spouse Hilda;  brother-in-law, Robert Reed; brother-in-law Ray L. Avery, and sister-in-law, Darlene L. Sellers and spouse Frank Sellers.

She is survived by her four children:  William A. Avery IV and his wife, Melissa;  Kathy E. Bowman and her husband, Donald; Gerald L. Avery and his wife, Jill; Arnold J. Avery and his wife, Karen.  Also surviving are her grandchildren:  Julie Bowman, Amy (Bowman) Karnes and husband Nick, Karie Bowman, Leann Bowman, Tyler Avery, Krista Avery, Nathan Avery, Lorraine Eaterwood, Amanda Nash, Danielle Calimano,Marcus Avery, Emma Avery, and Quinntin Avery.  Great grandchildren:  Brynn, Elyse, Teagan, and Paige Karnes, Kinsley Becker, and Kaleb, Isaiah, and Aaron Nash;

Siblings:  Audrey Reed, Mrs. Richard D. (Ruth)  Wenner and Roy (Virginia) Rhinard; brother-in-law, Robert (Pat) Avery, sister-in-law Marie (Jim) Reynolds, sister-in-law, Shirley (Harry) Farlow, and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Avery. 

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018 at 10 A.
