Thomas Knouse Obituary

Thomas J. Knouse, 89, of Bloomsburg and formerly of Benton, died Wednesday morning, September 11, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born August 10, 1930 in Jackson Township, Columbia County, he was a son of the late Charles Richard Knouse and Florence Mildred (Clemens) Knouse.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ethel Mae (Cox) Knouse on January 25, 2004.

He attended Benton High School and then faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.  He had been awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars and the United Nations Service Medal. 

Mr. Knouse worked as a racehorse groomer and also raised and trained horses.  He had also done farm work for many years.

He had a great love for horses and also enjoyed watching westerns on TV and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are his children:  Robert J. Knouse, Berwick; Wilson T. Knouse, Bloomsburg; Robin J.  Hittle and her husband, Fred, of Orangeville; Michael S. Knouse and his wife, Kim, of Attica, NY; Jason M. Knouse, of Catawissa and Barbara J. Klinger and her husband, Mark Jr. of Berwick.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and a sister, Bertha Jean Davis, of Benton.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Harriet D. Brayley; 2 sisters and a brother:  Elizabeth "Betty" Albertson, Blanche Knouse and Richard C. "Buck" Knouse.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 2 PM at Jackson Cemetery, Derrs.  Pastor Scott L. Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton, PA 17814 to help defray final expenses.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., Benton.  For online condolences or for additional information, please visit:  www.mcmichaelfuneralhome.com
