William J. "Bill" Bennett, Jr., 72, of Benton Township, died Thursday evening, December 19, 2019 at his home following a brief illness.
Born February 22, 1947 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was a son of the late William J. Bennett, Sr. and Mary (Hemenway) Bennett. He and his wife, Lorena L. (Lawson) Bennett, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on September 28th.
Bill was a graduate of Linden High School in Linden, New Jersey and also from the Thomas Edison Vocational School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He had been employed as a tool and dye maker for the Beckley Perforating Company, in Garwood, New Jersey and then for fourteen years as an animal lab technician for Merck Research Labs, in Rahway, New Jersey.
He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Benton.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the NRA.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lorena, are his three children: Lorena N. Dolan, Flemington, NJ; William J. Bennett, III and his wife, Beth, of Howell, NJ; Brian S. Bennett and his wife, Jennifer, of Manville, NJ; ten grandchildren and a sister, Joan Lacey, of Colonia, New Jersey.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy.
Services will be held Friday, December 27th, 2019 at 12 Noon at the Bible Baptist Church, 250 Shickshinny Road, Benton with Pastor Paul W. Gustine, officiating. A private graveside service will be held in the Benton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Pathways Pregnancy Resource Center, 480 Pierce Street, Suite 320, Kingston, PA 18704.
