Alice L. (Whitesell) Temple, 78, of Berwick, and formerly of the Benton area, died Wednesday morning, November 1, 2023 at her home.
Born July 15, 1945 in Sweet Valley, she was a daughter of the late Fred R. and Jean L. (Hannis) Whitesell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Franklin D. "Frank" Temple, on December 29, 2005.
Alice was a 1963 graduate of Lake Lehman High School. She also attended the New Tribes Institute in Wisconsin.
In her younger years, she worked as a waitress and cook in Sweet Valley. She also had worked as an in-home hospice care giver and sold Western Southern Life Insurance.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo, trips to the casinos, playing cards, decorating, making homemade soaps, grapevine baskets and wreaths and tending to her floral gardens.
Surviving are her two daughters: Bethany J. Temple and her wife, Tina Curilla, of Brandon, Florida; Jana L. Temple, Berwick; a granddaughter, Sarah L. Temple Anderson, of Bloomsburg; three sisters: Janet Hartzel and her husband, Randy, of Nescopeck; Anne Smith Britt and her husband, Richard, of Sweet Valley; Carol Grabowski, of Berwick; two brothers: John Whitesell and his wife, Eileen, of Haskell, OK and Leon Whitesell and his wife, Lavonna, of Edmond, OK; a number of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and her faithful canine companion, Gordon ("Pee Wee").
Along with her parents and husband, Frank, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Roger Whitesell and Fred Whitesell, Jr.; a sister, Lenore Cragle Frazier, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, November 6th, 2023 at 2 PM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487) with Chaplain Bob Barner, officiating. Private burial will be in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Sugarloaf Township. There will be a visitation on Monday from 1 PM until the time of the service at 2 at McMichael's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Camp Victory, 58 Camp Victory Road, Millville, PA 17846.
