Allen E. Chapin

Allen E. Chapin, 87, of New Columbus Borough, died Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Susan Chapin, in Benton Township.

Born November 13, 1938 at the Bloomsburg Hospital, he was a son of the late  Carl and Helen (Hess) Chapin.  He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia A. (Masters) Chapin, on October 31, 2016. 

Mr. Chapin was a member of the last graduating class of Huntington Mills High School in 1956.    

He was an over the road truck driver and employed by the Wise Potato Chip Company of Berwick for 37 years and was credited with four million safe driving miles.  After his retirement from Wise's, he drove for Chapin Sewage Disposal until an injury in 2023 at age 85.  He also operated Allen Chapin Excavating for more than 30 years.

Mr. Chapin was the current Mayor of New Columbus Borough; a position he had maintained since 2009.

His hobbies included snowmobiling and motorcycling.  He competed in races for both sports in the 1960's and 1970's.  Allen and Pat would go on annual snowmobile and motorcycle trips across the United States and Canada, which included trips to Newfoundland.  They also attended major motorcycle events such as Americade and Daytona Bike Week.  He also really enjoyed eating breakfast with the "regulars" at the "Full Bull".  He  cherished the time that he spent playing games, especially Cad, with the great grandkids and looked forward to "game night". 

He was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church and assisted with the church suppers and ice cream socials and festivals. 

Surviving are his two sons:  Todd A. Chapin and his partner, Beth, of  Mifflinville; Timothy E. Chapin and his wife, Susan, of Benton; four grandchildren:  Jeremy Chapin, James Chapin, Kayla Chapin and Allison Walter and her husband, Justin; great grandchildren:  Hailey, Chase, Rylee, Mia, Ryder, Greyson, Elliana and Brooklyn.  Also surviving are his brother, Roy Chapin and his wife, Kathleen, of Stillwater and a sister, Janice Monroe, of Shickshinny as well as nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife, Pat, and his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Abe Monroe. 

Graveside Services will be held Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11 AM

at the New Columbus Cemetery, with Pastor Chris Long, Town  Hill United Methodist Church,  officiating.
