Barbara L. (Martin) Hartman, 88, formerly of Sugarloaf Township, died Sunday morning, December 1, 2024 at Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater.
Born October 20, 1936 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late James Leroy and Madeline E. (Deitrich) Martin. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Zane L. Hartman, on April 27, 2005.
She was a graduate of Northwest Area High School.
Barbara had worked for the former Dockey Shirt Factory in Benton and later for Benton Wood Products until her retirement.
She had been an active member of the former Brandon United Methodist Church and more recently Christ United Methodist Church in Central. She loved to sing and enjoyed being a member of the Church Choirs. She was also a member of the WSCS, assisted with the fish suppers and the buckwheat cake and sausage dinners. She was also a volunteer for the North Mountain Carnival and the Benton Food Bank. In her younger years, she was also a 4-H Leader.
Barbara enjoyed being a homemaker and was known for her cooking, baking and gardening. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, square dancing, and traveling with her husband, Zane. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and hosting her annual New Year's parties.
Surviving are her six children: Madelyn Bonham and her husband, Steve, of Red Rock; Kathy Wilson and her husband, Richard, of Huntington Mills; ; Mary Ann Bankes and her husband, Keith, of Stillwater; Beth Rupert, of Nescopeck; Vicki Zeitler and her husband, Robert, of Abbeville, SC; and Daniel Hartman and his wife, Cathy, of Benton. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandson, as well as a sister, Jacqueline, of Delaware.
Along with her parents and husband, Zane, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Jarrett Bankes in 2020 and by a stillborn brother.
Private Graveside services will be held at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Sugarloaf Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
