Beverly A. (Aten) Brown

Beverly A. (Aten) Brown, 86, of Mifflinville, died Monday afternoon, December 7, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her children.

Born June 19, 1934 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl (Andreas) Aten.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland J. Brown on March 6, 1994.

Beverly was a graduate of Mifflin Township Senior High School, where she was salutarian of her class.  She had been employed by  ACME Markets, retiring in 1994, after 31 years of service.

She was a longtime and active member of St. John Lutheran Church of Mifflinville. She also served as a volunteer for the Red Cross Meals on Wheels program for more than 20 years.

Her hobbies included cards, puzzles, reading, playing Bingo and bus trips.

Surviving are her five children:  Cynthia A. Powlus and her husband, Gene, of Berwick; Steve Brown and his wife, Jan, of Lititz, PA; Kathleen Y. Hoffer and her husband, Dr. Scott Hoffer, The Villages, FL; Diane A. Young and her husband, Mark, of Nescopeck; Karen L. Diltz and her husband, Donald, of Lime Ridge.

Also surviving are her grandchildren:  Julie Adams, Anna Powlus, (Brandon Kline)  Jessica Ely (Kurt Ely), MacKenzie Brown, Nicholas Fait (Deborah Patton), Ryan Young (Ellexis Young), Emily Johnson (Nate Johnson), Adam Diltz (Taylor Nask) and Mitchell Diltz (Kathleen Kocher); her great grandchildren:  Lea Adams, Ellena Adams, Weston Brown, Grant Johnson and Benjamin Ely.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce McSurdy.

A Viewing will be held Friday, December 11th, 2020 from 11 AM until 12 Noon at St. John Lutheran Church, Mifflinville, Fifth and Race Streets, Mifflinville.  Due to the pandemic, CDC guidelines will be followed and masks will be required.  A private funeral service for the family will be held with burial in the Mifflinville Cemetery.  The Rev. Chad Hebrink, will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. John Lutheran Church, P. O. Box B, Mifflinville, PA 18631.
