Beverly J. (Fritz) Smith

Beverly J. (Fritz) Smith, 89, of Benton Township, died Thursday afternoon, July 1, 2021 at Maria Hall, Danville.

 Born January 9, 1932 in Jackson Township, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow J. Fritz, who died on March 30, 1998 and Alice (Butler) Fritz, who died June 16, 1987.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Sheldon L. Smith, who died January 17, 2012.

Beverly was a 1950 graduate of Benton High School.  Later in her life she went to Bloomsburg State College where she graduated in 1967.  She taught school for 31 years; one year at Northwest Area School District and 30 years for the L. Ray Appleman Elementary School in Benton.

 She was an active member of the Benton United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Benton Sewing Club, the Bloomsburg Ivy Club and the PEO, Chapter AV.

Beverly was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading poetry.  She had a great love for children and watching them grow and develop.  She was also known as a great dog-lover and especially loved Zeus.  Beverly loved to travel and was in every state in the country except for four; she also spent a month in Europe one year.  She also enjoyed trips to New York City to see Broadway plays.  Most of all, she  loved her family and cherished the time that she spent with them.

Surviving are her three children:  Bruce L. Smith and his fiancé, Ann, of Orangeville; Janice S. Dysart and her husband, David, of Orangeville; Patti L. Fink, of Benton; five grandchildren: Tiffany Kester, Terri Yurko; Tracy Hoover; Brian Fink and Brenda May; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Schupp, of Benton; two sisters-in-law:  Sandra Fritz, of Benton and Shirley Conner, of Nampa, Idaho as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, William Fritz, on December 5, 2001; brother, Jesse E. Fritz on June 14, 2018; daughter-in-law, Connie Smith on June 20, 2012; son-in-law, Wayne E. Fink on April 22, 2007; brother-in-law, John "Jack" Schupp, Jr. on Aug. 20, 2001 and sister-in-law, Nancy Fritz on June 26, 2017.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, July 27th, 2021 at 7 PM  at the Benton United Methodist Church, Main Street, Benton.  The Family will receive friends from 6 PM until the time of the service at 7 PM at the Church. In lieu  of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the L. R. Appleman Elementary School Library, 600 Green Acres Road, Benton, PA 17814.
