Clair R. Karnes

Clair R. Karnes, 94, of Montour Township, died Monday evening, December 9, 2024 at his home.

Born March 19, 1930 in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late William Howard Karnes and Emma (Swift) Karnes.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Artley) Karnes in 2012 and by a daughter, Cynthia Marie, in 1996.

Mr. Karnes attended a one room school in Grovania.  He had been employed as a contractor and later for Sears in Bloomsburg.  He last worked for the Bloomsburg Hospital in the Maintenance Department for 30 years, retiring in 2006.

He was a member of the LCBC Church in Bloomsburg; the Mainville Sportsmen's Club and the Kramer Gun Club.  He was a past member of the American Legion.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Karnes enjoyed hunting, shooting blue rock and was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed tying his own flies.  He was also an accomplished woodworker. 

Surviving are his two children:  Sandra L. Karnes, of Bloomsburg and Todd R. Karnes and his wife, Holly, of Benton; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  

He was the last member of his immediate family. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings:  William "Bill" Karnes, James Karnes, Donald Karnes, Wayne  Karnes, Richard Karnes and by a sister, Blanche.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11 AM the LCBC Church, Bloomsburg with Pastor Brad Travelpiece and Tim Karnes, officiating.  Private burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to LCBC Church, 2421 Columbia Boulevard, Bloomsburg,  PA 17815.
