Constance “Connie” Egli, 94, of Riverside, PA went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2024
Born July 24,1929 in Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Erma (Yagel) Stein, both of Muncy. She was married to Harold “Cork” Egli until his death on January 15, 2018.
Connie was a Williamsport girl, graduating in the high school class of 1947 and Williamsport Nursing School thereafter. She worked as a nurse at East Stroudsburg Hospital, PA and at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN, having the unique experience of “scrubbing” in the operating room for one of the Mayo brothers. She was very proud to be the daughter of one of the founders of Little League Baseball, Harry Stein.
Connie and Cork moved to Danville in 1957 where she became a full-time homemaker. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She lived in Riverside for 67 years, where she and Cork raised their five children: Daniel Egli (Linda) of Pennsdale, PA, Diane Hirt of Yardley, PA, Dane Egli (Annemarie) of Guffey, CO, Debra Egli-Flanagan (John) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Denise Amonson (Mike) of Philomont, VA.
The most significant event in her life occurred when she made the step of faith to trust Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Having been born in 1929, she was born again in the summer of 1958. This commitment changed the course of her life and sparked her steadfast love for God, the study of Scripture, and for sharing her faith with others.
Her favorite verses were Nahum 1:7, 1 Samuel 12:24, and Psalm 46:10.
She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Clubs, and 4-H sewing classes—infused with her love for God, and others. She and Cork immersed themselves in sharing their faith in practical ways; nobody was outside their influence of kindness, hospitality, and prayer. In later years, quilting became one of her great pleasures. She was an honorary member of the Tiadaghton Quilt Guild, and her customized “patch work” designs were featured in quilting magazines.
Connie is survived by her sister, Linda Stein; her children (and spouses); 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, husband and brother, Vincent Stein, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Henry Frey; son-in-law Oscar Herbert Hirt, III; and sister-in-law Carol Stein.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, May 29, 2024, at the Danville First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM at the church. There will be a social gathering following the service from 12-2 PM in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at the Muncy Cemetery on May 28, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Connie’s memory be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship (cefonline.com) or Friends of Israel (foi.org).
