Dale E. Creveling, II, 61, of West Brookfield, Mass. and formerly of Stillwater, died Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the U. Mass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.
Born March 20, 1963 at the Bloomsburg Hospital, he was a son of Dale E. and Dealia (Benjamin) Creveling, of Stillwater.
Dale attended Benton Schools and later Columbia Montour Vocational Technical School. He joined the U. S. Army in 1981 where he was a paratrooper and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class, retiring after a 20 year career.
He was wounded in action in 2004 in the Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving with the 16th Military Police Brigade. He had also been assigned to Company A, 307th Medical Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division in 1983 and 1984. He had been awarded the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal; two Army Commendation Medals; 4 Army Achievement Medals; Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Good Conduct Medal; 4 Army Reserve Components Achievement medals; National Defense Medal; Army Lapel Button; Service Medal with Bronze Star; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal Campaign Star; the Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; 3 Overseas Service Ribbons; 3 Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbons; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; 2 Combat Infantryman Badges; and the Parachutist badge.
Dale also worked as a chef in Rhode Island and then went to Vermont at Woodstock Inn where he trained to become an executive chef. He moved to the Balsam's in New Hampshire and also trained there. He then worked at Mt. Washington Resort and moved to North Conway, NH and worked at the Red Jacket Resort; the Story Brook Resort and he managed the Fox Ridge Resort for 6 years. He managed the Cranmore Ski Lodge for a short period of time and helped establish the Muddy Moose Restaurant. He then worked as a chef at the New Hampshire State Prison for several years.
He then joined the Mountain Division of Vermont and went to Iraq where he was a squad leader. He served in Desert Storm, Baghdad, and Fallujah.
Dale was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed doing fund raising motorcycle rides for Veterans.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, Dale and Dealia Creveling of Stillwater, are his girlfriend, Sarah Pierson; two daughters: Meghan and Grace; a brother, Flint Creveling, of Stillwater. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Eugene Creveling III.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 11 A.M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487) with Pastor Scott Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating. Friends and relatives will be received Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Fishing Creek Township, with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Shickshinny American Legion, 575 S. R. 239, Shickshinny, PA 18655.
