Derl Lewis Dennis, 87, of Fairmount Township, died Tuesday morning, May 5, 2020 at Geisinger South Residential Hospice in Wilkes-Barre.
Born April 19, 1933 in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late Stanley and Ethel (Traxler) Dennis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carmen June (Fritz) Dennis on July 3, 2005 and by his only son, The Reverend Daniel Lewis Dennis, on March 29, 2019.
He attended the Town Hill Grade School and then graduated from the former Huntington Township High School in 1951.
Mr. Dennis had been employed by Commonwealth Telephone Company as a lineman for 46 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a long time member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. He was also a trustee of the Patterson Grove Campground in Harveyville.
His hobbies included antique tractors, attending tractor shows and he was an avid New York Mets baseball fan.
Surviving are his companion, Doloris Kittle, of Sweet Valley and numerous cousins and friends.
Private graveside services will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Harveyville with Pastor Tyler Rauhauser, Town Hill United Methodist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, PA 18655.
