Donald L. "Don" Remley, 65, of rural Benton (Jackson Township), went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, October 20, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He had been in ill health since May.
Born December 26, 1954 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, he was a son of the late G. Edward Remley, who died April 23, 1992 and Marian E. (Spencer) Remley, who died May 15, 2019. He and his wife, Esther N. (Landis) Remley, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on September 2nd.
Don graduated from Columbia Montour Vocational Technical School in 1972. Don was a lifelong truck driver, driving over 6 1/2 million miles without any chargeable accidents. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He drove for several local companies over the years including Max Starr, Fraley's, Larry Whitmoyer, ConWest, USSF Holland, Art Woolever and Hoyt's Fuel Service.
Don was an avid John Deere collector with over thirty-six tractors. He enjoyed at least one thousand tractor pulls and developed a great love for the sport. He was thankful for the friendships made and the competition of the sport. Don enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion of tractor pulls with others. He participated in the New York state two-cylinder XPO and traveled as far as Tunica, Mississippi for a St. Jude's benefit pull where he accomplished winning "King of the Hill".
Don and his family built his home that he was very proud of. The lumber was cut and sawed at the family sawmill on the property.
He was a lifelong member of the Divide Union Church.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, Esther, are his son, Eric Edward Remley; a granddaughter, Brooke Remley; a sister, Donna J. Remley and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy T. Remley, on September 19, 2010 and by a brother, Kenneth D. "Ken" Remley, on September 14, 2018.
A private viewing will be held for the family at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., Benton. A public graveside service will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at 1 PM at the Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township, with Pastor Scott L. Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating.
