Dorothy I. "Dot" (Hess) Wolford, 96, of Benton Township, died Friday, January 22, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Dottie Wetzel, in Orange Township.
Born January 21, 1925 in Sugarloaf Township, she was a daughter of the late Harry T. and Mary (Temple) Hess. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Alfred C. "Pete" Wolford, on March 3, 2008.
Mrs. Wolford attended the Grassmere School and was employed by the Magee Carpet Company in Bloomsburg for many years. She later worked for the former Harold's Market in Maple Grove, until she retired.
She was a very active member of the Jackson Baptist Church, Derrs, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, a leader for the Pioneer Girls and assisted with the various activities of the Church.
Her hobbies included gardening, especially tending to her flower beds, and ceramics. She and her husband, Pete, loved to travel and they especially enjoyed their trips out west and their month-long trip to Alaska.
Surviving are her two children: John A. Wolford and his wife, Charlotte, of Orangeville and Dottie M. Wetzel, of Bloomsburg; five grandchildren: Jeffery S. Wolford and his wife, Audra; Richard C. Wolford, Crystal Lee Michael, Brian Wolford, and Gary E. Wetzel; six great grandchildren: Madison, Jeff, Kristin, Chris, Nicholas and Josh; one great great granddaughter and a sister, Alice Marconi, of Bloomsburg.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Alfred C. Wolford, Jr. on October 14, 2004 and by the following siblings: Erma Benjamin, Mae Saxer, Virgie Mankoski, Max Hess and Freeman Hess.
Due to the pandemic, private graveside services will be held at the Jackson Cemetery, Jackson Township with Pastor Walter E. Minto, her Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (in memory of her son, Alfred C. Wolford, Jr.) Columbia County Unit, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
