Dr. James F. DeVoe, “Doc” age 93, of Millville, went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2025. He was born in East Smithfield, Pennsylvania to Forrest and Jennie DeVoe.
Jim graduated from Penn State University, where he proudly played lacrosse. He went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania. As a veterinarian, he served generations of families and farmers, earning a reputation for hard work, compassion, and commitment to both people and animals for over 45 years.
In 1955, James married the love of his life, Jean “Marlene” Larcom DeVoe, beginning a lifelong partnership built on faith, devotion, and love. He cherished his family above all else and found great joy in time spent with them.
A man of strong Christian faith, he was actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Farmers, reflecting a life rooted in faith and service.
James had a larger-than-life personality and had many passions. He loved participating in the Millville parade for 63 years, was known for singing, and took pride in raising buffalo, a unique endeavor that many in the community fondly remember. His presence, laughter, and stories will be deeply missed. In addition, he shared his heart the last 5 years with his faithful yellow lab, “Joy” who accompanied him on his wrangler.
He is survived by his three children, James DeVoe, II (Elaine) of TN, Heidi James (Doug) of Hughesville and Suzanna Sherlinski (Gary) of Millville; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Jean “Marlene” Larcom DeVoe; his sisters, Rita O’Brien, Phillis Hunsinger and Thelma Wright; and his brothers, Larue and Philip DeVoe.
Doc will be remembered for his devotion to God, his family, and his work in the community. His life was one well lived, and his impact will be felt for generations.
