Duane F. Nice, 69, of New Columbus Borough, died early Thursday morning, May 29, 2025 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born December 7, 1955 in Sellersville, Bucks County he was a son of the late Richard Strohm Nice and Doris Derstine (Freed) Nice. He and his wife, Mary Lynne (Gross) Nice, would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on August 5th.
Duane was a 1974 graduate of Souderton Area High School and then earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education from Gwynedd Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
After teaching elementary students for several years, he enjoyed his position as the bookmobile librarian for 19 years out of Norristown, Montgomery County, until his retirement in 2018.
Duane was a member of Stillwater Christian Church and previously a long time member of Calvary Church of Souderton, where he was very involved with the children's ministries. He taught Sunday School, Church time and Tree Climbers in the Boys Brigade Program for more than 20 years.
While living in the Souderton area, he was a youth soccer and baseball coach for many years. He loved sports and was an avid Phillies, Cowboys and Eagles fan. He was also a diligent recumbent biker, participant in Parkinson Voice Project, Power for Parkinson's online classes and was an advocate encouraging others with a Parkinson's diagnosis.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary Lynne, are his three children: Benjamin Nice and his wife, Christa, of East Greenville, PA; Kara Fox and her husband, Christopher, of Shickshinny; Daniel Nice and his wife, Cassie, of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren: Shari, J. R., and Sarah Fox; Dax and Amelia Nice. Also surviving is a sister, Jeanette Dructor, of Souderton.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a stillborn sister.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11 AM at the Stillwater Christian Church, 39 McMichael Street, Stillwater. A Visitation will take place on June 28th from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11 at the Church.
