Edward Campbell Obituary

Edward L. "Ed" Campbell, 83, of Scott Township, died Wednesday morning, November 30, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 12, 1939 in Sugarloaf Township, he was a son of the late Harry and Vera (Hartzel) Campbell.  He and his beloved wife, Nancy K. (Howell) Campbell, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on October 21st. 

Ed was a 1957 graduate of Benton High School.  He, along with his wife,  owned and operated the Heritage House Restaurant.  He also owned and operated Heritage Acres Evergreen Christmas Tree Farm for many years. He was also a partner in Ed & Dick's Air Service, later known as East Penn Aviation.  He also owned a hot air balloon and a glider.

He served his country in the Pennsylvania National Guards and the US Army Reserves for ten years.

Ed was a longtime and active member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years and on numerous committees.  He was a member and past master of Oriental Lodge, No. 460, F. & A. M., of Orangeville; the Bloomsburg Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, No. 279;  Caldwell Consistory of Bloomsburg, where he was a degree master; Irem Temple, of Dallas; Royal Arch Chapter and Crusade Commandery. 

He served on the board of directors of First Columbia Bank and Trust (formerly Columbia County Farmer's National Bank) for 25 years and was Secretary of the board for many years. 

Very active in community organizations and events he was also a past chairman of  the Covered Bridge Arts and Crafts Festival; a director of Columbia Montour Tourist Promotion Agency, a past president of Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association; chairman of the National Christmas Tree Growers Association for their 56th anniversary held in Pennsylvania.  He was also a life member of the Lightstreet Volunteer Fire Company where he volunteered at their annual carnivals;  a past  director of the local Red Cross Chapter and the Bloomsburg  Chamber of Commerce.

His  hobbies included fishing, traveling, reading and woodwork.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Nancy, are his two children:  Cheryl A. Bissinger and her husband, Kevin, of Bloomsburg; James Campbell and his wife, Kristi, of Lightstreet; five grandchildren:  Kelty Campbell, Olivia  Campbell, Austin Bissinger, Tory Bissinger, and Maggie Campbell;  a great granddaughter, Penelope Campbell; his siblings:  Jolene Stackhouse and her husband, Arnold, of Stillwater; Elaine Harrison Sweet, of Benton; Sheila Thompson, of Benton; Cathy Beck and her husband, Barry, of Benton; Kay Campbell-Stanton and her companion, David, of Benton, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers:  Richard Campbell and Alfred "Tom" Gulliver and by his second mother, Lavenia Campbell.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 12 Noon at the Lighthouse at the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main Street, Lightstreet with Rev. Rebecca B. Cuddeback, his Pastor, officiating.  Viewing will begin Saturday at 9:30 AM until the time of the Service at noon at the Lighthouse.  Masonic Services and Order of Eastern Star Services will be held Saturday morning at 9 AM. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Lightstreet Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
