Elwood R. Erney, Jr., 91, of Sugarloaf Township, died Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Cornerstone Living in New Tripoli, Pennsylvania.
Born October 24, 1931 in Zieglerville, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Elwood R. Erney, Sr. and Annie (Gebert) Erney. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Henrietta Lorene (McLaughlin) Erney, on August 7th, 2022.
He attended Schwenksville High School and worked in the tire industry for 40 years. He retired in 1995.
Mr. Erney served his country in the U. S. Army and the U. S. National Guards.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, of Central.
His hobbies included woodworking and making maple syrup. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his three sons: Jody Reed Erney and his wife, Beth Ann, of Boyertown; Scott Hugh Erney and his wife, Cindy, of New Ringgold; Shawn Jon Erney and his wife, Brenda, of Oley, PA; six grandchildren: Eric
Erney, Chad Erney, Drew Erney and his wife, Jourdan; Trisha Reiber and her husband, Jared; Briana Fenstermacher and her husband, Justin; Dr. Austin Erney and his wife, Dr. Glenda Erney; great grandchildren: Benson, Archer, Beckett and Rhett Tucker, Grayson, Lincoln, Roman, Jordyn, Caden, Kinley Lorene, Hattie, Ayla as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
He was the last member of his immediate family and along with his wife and parents, was preceded in death by the following siblings: a sister, Freida Heimbach; half sister, Evelyn Miller; half brother, Clifford Hayes; half brother, Grant Wile; and half sister, Helen Moyer.
Funeral Services and Military Honors will be held Wednesday, October 25th, 2023 at 11 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487) with Pastor Todd Davis, officiating. Graveside Committal Services will be held Thursday at 11 AM at the Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, PA. There will be a viewing Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at McMichael's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Christ United Methodist Church, 940 Central Road, Benton, PA 17814.
