Fred D. Hess, 73, of Sugarloaf Township, died Sunday morning, May 30th, 2021 at his home following a brief illness.
Born October 18, 1947 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, he was a son of the late Budd D. Hess, who died February 9, 2007 and Virginia P. (Rank) Hess, who died March 30, 2011.
Fred was a 1966 graduate of Benton High School. He worked with his father in construction, Budd Hess and Sons Construction Company, of Benton, and later owned and operated Hess Builders. He also owned and operated Grassmere Park Campground in Sugarloaf Township since 1971.
An avid outdoorsman, Fred enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially fishing trips to Canada. He was also an accomplished dart player.
Surviving are his two daughters: Stacey K. Geffken and her husband, Richard, of Benton; Wendy H. Gable, of Emmaus, PA; three grandchildren: Miles and Kate Geffken and Sydney Gable; three step granddaughters, Brittany Braddock, Alyssa and Morgan Geffken; a brother, Dwane S. Hess and his wife, Cindy, of Shickshinny; a sister, Barbara J. Politano, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado and his companion, Christine Thomas.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 2 PM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487) with Pastor Rocky Bonomo, Sweet Valley Church of Christ, officiating. Friends and Relatives will be received from 1 PM until the time of the service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, Columbia County Unit, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
