Fred S. Kalweit, 81, of rural Shickshinny (Union Township), died Tuesday morning, June 24, 2025 at Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Nanticoke.
Born November 25, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Fred O. and Alice E. (Houseman) Kalweit. He and his wife, Rebecca R. "Becky" (Ridall) Kalweit, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 30th.
He was a 1961 graduate of Northwest Area High School and then worked on the family poultry farm with his father and then was employed by Bechtel for 10 years. He later worked for Wise Potato Chips and then ARGO in Berwick; he was also later employed by Techneglas for 10 years and last worked for Simmons Mattress Company in Hazleton.
He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Air Force.
Fred attended Calvary Bible Chapel in Muhlenburg and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Nanticoke.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Rebecca ("Becky") are his three daughters: Kim Rebecca Kadtke and her husband, Randy, of Waterton; Karla Ann Thomas and her husband, Brian, of Waterton; Kristin Lee Culver and her husband, Bret, of Shickshinny; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Judith LeValley and her husband, Marvin, of Shickshinny and numerous nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Zelinske and by a granddaughter, Rachael Thomas.
The Family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at the former Bonham Nursing Center, Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and to Serenity Hospice for the wonderful care that they provided to Fred.
Funeral Services will be held day at Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 11 AM at Calvary Bible Chapel, 362 Hunlock-Harveyville Road, Hunlock Creek with the Rev. Neil S. Martin, his Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn, with Military Honors.
A Viewing will be held Monday, June 30th, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487) and also at the Church on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11.
