Gerald A. "Jerry" Zeveney, 90, of Benton, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born March 12, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Alphonso Zeveney, who died January 8, 1996 and Dorothy E. (White) Zeveney, who died Nov. 22, 2002. He and his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Trudnak) Zeveney, would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 15th.
Jerry was a 1948 graduate of Huntington Mills High School and then attended Stroudsburg State College until he entered the U. S. Army where he faithfully served his country during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 after 43 years as a switchman with Commonwealth Telephone Company.
He was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church of Benton where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and sang in the church choir. He was also a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus.
Active in the community, he was a charter member of the Benton Lions Club and the NCCCC, the Barbershoppers and in his younger years was a Boy Scout leader.
An avid sportsman, his hobbies included fishing, golfing and bowling.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary Ann, are his two children: Stephen P. Zeveney and his wife, Toni, of Milford, Delaware; Lisa A. Urie and her husband, Jackson R., of Sykesville, Maryland; five grandchildren: Andrew and Anna Zeveney; Joseph Gerald, Sarah V. and Rebecca A. Urie.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene K. Zeveney, who died in 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 15th, 2021 at 10 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 300 Mendenhall Lane, Benton, with Father Francis Tamburro, Retired Priest, as Celebrant. There will be a Visitation at the Church from 9 AM until the time of the Mass at 10 AM. The Knights of Columbus will also conduct services. Military Honors will also be accorded by a group of local Veterans. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Christ the King Catholic Church, P. O. Box 297, Benton, PA 17814.
