Geraldine R. (Yost) Watts Laubach, 89, of Benton, died Friday morning, August 28th, 2020 at Maria Hall in Danville.
Born February 23, 1931 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, she was a daughter of the late Frank Clifton Yost and Phoebe Caroline (Perry) Yost.
Geraldine was a 1949 graduate of Benton High School, Susquehanna LPN School and the Luzerne County Community College School of Nursing where she earned her R. N. degree.
She had worked at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville and then moved to Gallup, New Mexico, at the age of 60, to work for the Indian Health Services. She retired at the age of 70. Following retirement, she worked flex at Our Little Sisters of the Poor Home. She was a very proud nurse and found her nursing career to be very gratifying.
Geraldine was very in the community belonging to many clubs and groups. She was very proud to be a member of the family church, Benton Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member. She also belonged to the Card Club, the Sewing Club, a proud Red Hatter, the Benton Rodeo Association, the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) and Daughters of the Colonist (DAC), the Northern Columbia Community Cultural Center (NCCCC), where she was very active in the senior center prior to moving to Elmcroft Assisted Living Center. She was a founding member of the Senior Center Drum Circle. She was in numerous productions with the West Creek Players Association. While living in New Mexico, she was a founder of the farmer's market where she was known as their "bread-baker".
She loved to play pinochle, enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, canning, and baking. She was always known for her delicious homemade bread.
Surviving are her five children: Glenda L. Friend, of Easton, PA; Barbara Girard, of Elgin, TX; Gerriann Danilowicz, of Forks; Jeffrey R. Watts and his wife, Solina, of Portugal and Clifton G. "Kip" Watts, of Watsontown as well as six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by many friends; especially Kay Chapman, Maralee Yost and Katie.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters and a brother: Lillian Edson, Betty Jane Trout, Frank C. Yost, Jr., and an infant son, George.
Services will be held at a future date due to the Pandemic. Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery.
