Gloria Y. (Hess) Harvey

Gloria Y. (Hess) Harvey, 84, of rural Benton (Jackson Township), died Tuesday afternoon, November 9th, 2021 at Bonham Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since August 26th.

Born April 1, 1937 in Waller, Jackson Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. Hess, who died June 9, 1970 and Kathryn M. (Fritz) Hess, who died September 12, 2006.  She and  her husband, James E. Harvey, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on October 17th. 

Gloria had been employed by the Benton branch of Columbia County Farmers National Bank, now known as First Columbia Bank and Trust Company, for 28 years.

She was a member of the Lungerville Christian Church.

Gloria cherished the time spent with family and she was well known for her cooking and baking.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, James, are two sons:  James Andrew Harvey and his wife, Barbara, of Sunbury and Allan W. Harvey and his wife, Kathy, of Benton.  Also surviving are four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte E. Assalone and her husband, Ralph, of Salisbury, Maryland; a brother, Gale E. Hess and his wife, Jacqueline, of Benton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Robert L. "Bob" Hess on November 16, 2020 and by two sisters:  Josephine K. Houck on January 29, 2018 and Louise M. Hess, who died in childhood.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 12th, 2021  at 11 A. M. at the McMichael  Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487) with Pastor Michael Woolcock, officiating.  Burial  will be in the Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township.  A Viewing will be held Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at 11 at McMichael's.
