Helen J. (Pursley) Kinney, 81, of Greenwood Township, and formerly of Raven Creek, died Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Born December 1, 1938 in Weikert, Union County, she was a daughter of the late William McCollum Pursley and Ruth (Hironomus) Pursley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Eugene F. "Gene" Kinney, on February 2, 2014.
Helen's mother died when she was young and she and her sister were raised in an Evangelical orphanage in Lewisburg, PA. She was a 1957 graduate of Lewisburg High School where she played the saxophone in the band, was in the girls’ league and was a member of the FHA.
She worked part time for several years as a cook for the Benton V. F. W. but was mostly known for being a wonderful homemaker. She especially enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and gardening. She was also an avid sports fan and particularly was a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers. She also was known for her great sense of humor; her love of Christmas, watching ice skating and her soap operas on TV.
Surviving are her three children: Lori J. Kinney of Benton; Vicki A. Moyer and her husband, Chip, of Millville; Zachary E. Kinney and his wife, Tina Westover, of Cambra; five grandchildren: Kelli J. Moyer, Kara M. Kinney, Sari A. Moyer, Jacob L. Moyer, and Zanna L. Kinney; nine great grandchildren: Rehna Wallace, Witten Swartz, Gabriel and Sawyer Thompson, Riley Albertson, Vivian and Conrad Hartzell and Lucas and Scarlet Moyer. Also surviving are a sister, Molly Haas and her husband, Robert, of Riverside and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, Gene, she was preceded in death by her two sisters and two brothers: Dorothy, Minnie, Harry and Elwood and her lifelong friend, Julie Herb.
She will be especially remembered by her family for being a loving mother and making memorable family traditions.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11 A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487). A viewing will be held Friday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11 at McMichael's.
