Henrietta Erney Obituary

Henrietta Lorene (McLaughlin) Erney, 87, of Sugarloaf Township, passed away early Sunday morning, August 7th, 2022 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 30, 1934 in Limerick, Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Norman Hugh McLaughlin and Martha Irene (Dinkerlocker) McLaughlin. She and her husband, Elwood R. Erney, Jr.,   celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on January 16th.

She attended Pottstown Schools and was employed by Godiva Chocolates in Reading, PA and prior to that for the Collegeville Flag Company.  She retired in 1995.

Henrietta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Henrietta is best described as a fun loving, energetic and hardworking woman who was devout in her Christian faith and loved being outdoors.  She was an active member of Christ  United Methodist Church of Central,  and for many years an integral part of the Sunday school program, the Christmas pageant and organist for the Sunday service.  She enjoyed the outdoors with her three sons and shared her passion for hunting, water skiing, snow skiing, ice skating and kayaking with them.  Henrietta spent many years vacationing in her home in Canada, which was her favorite place to be.  She enjoyed time there on the lake with family and friends doing what she loved most, kayaking and water skiing.  She was a self-taught artist with a focus on wildlife and Christmas décor.  Henrietta’s legacy not only lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her but also in the homes of those who display her artwork.  She will be loved and missed by many, but not forgotten.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Elwood, are three sons:  Jody Reed Erney and his wife, Beth Ann, of Boyertown; Scott Hugh Erney and his wife, Cindy, of New Ringgold; Shawn Jon Erney and his wife, Brenda, of Oley, PA; six grandchildren:  Trisha Reiber and her husband, Jared; Briana Fenstermacher and her husband, Justin; Dr. Austin Erney and his wife, Dr. Glenda Erney;  Eric Erney, Chad Erney, Drew Erney and his wife, Jourdan;  great grandchildren:  Tucker, Grayson, Lincoln, Roman; Jordyn, Caden, Kinley Lorene, Hattie, Ayla; Benson, Archer, Beckett and Rhett; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she  was preceded in death by siblings: her twin sister, Harrietta Rahmer, Arthella Peck, Gladys Lowa, Eleanor Kanach, Irene Flynn, Beatrice Nester, Bertha McLaughlin and Norman McLaughlin.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at 11 A. M. at Christ United Methodist Church, Central, with Pastor Todd Davis,  officiating.  Graveside Committal Services will be held Thursday at 11 AM at the Limerick Garden of Memories, Inc., Limerick, PA.  There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Christ United Methodist Church.    The McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., of Benton, is honored to serve the Erney family.
