Irma Jeanne Vansock Obituary

Irma Jeanne (Wood) Vansock, 89, of Divide (Jackson Township), died Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at Bonham Nursing Center, with her family by her side. 

Born January 8, 1935 in Huntington Mills, she was a daughter of the late D. Richard Wood, who died January 22, 1994 and Helen Marie (Fritz) Wood, who died November 13, 1986.  She was also preceded in death by her  husband of 38 years, Andrew G. Vansock, on January 13, 1996.

Irma Jeanne was a graduate of Benton High School, Class of 1953 and the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1956.

She worked as a Registered Nurse at The Bloomsburg Hospital in the Obstetrics Department from 1956 until her retirement in 1997.  She then worked part time for Dr. Marion L. Brown in Bloomsburg for six years and also as a secretary for her husband's farm equipment business in Orangeville.  

She was an active and long time member of the Divide Union Church where she also served as pianist and a Sunday School teacher.  She also sang with the Waller Church Choir for special hymn sings.  In her younger years, she was a Waller 4-H Leader. 

Irma Jeanne enjoyed being a homemaker and was known for her cooking, baking, canning, freezing, quilting, sewing and knitting. 

Surviving are her five children:  Andrew R. "Pean" Vansock and his companion, Donna James, of  Benton; Candace M. Hess, and her companion, Randy Eyer, of Orangeville; Helen A. Iddings and her husband, Rick, of Benton; Jill E. Lockard and her  husband, Barry, of Benton; Stephen G. Vansock and his wife, Debra, of Benton; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; her siblings:  R. Elaine Honse, of Bloomsburg;  Mary Gay Kline and  her companion, Robert Marino; Richard D. "Dick" Wood and his wife, Tina, of Benton; Helen Ruth Rupert and her husband, Ray, of Bloomsburg; Charles "Chuck" Wood and his wife, Dolly, of Benton and numerous nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Art Search and sister-in-laws:  Mary Ann Wood and Sandy Wood.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Constance J. Vansock on May 1, 1959; a grandson, Jesse D. Vansock, on July 29, 2018; three brothers:  Albert F. Wood on April 14, 2007; James E. Wood on August 20, 2012; Raymond E. Wood on November 18, 2022; a sister, Judy A. Search on December 8, 2016 and a great granddaughter, Elise Faith English on November 10, 2001.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc.,4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487)  with Pastor Caleb Fritz, officiating. Burial will be in the Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township.  A viewing will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7  PM and Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11 at McMichael's.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Divide Union Church, c/o Carla Remley, 114 Andys Hill Road, Benton, PA 17814.
