Jack Wainwright’s big heart took its final beats at his residence in Orangeville on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Jack was born October 1st, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY and he retained his native accent throughout his life.
He was a veteran of the US Navy having served on the Aircraft carrier the USS Valley Forge out of Norfolk, VA on which he completed tours worldwide. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, Jack began his professional carrier working in Building and Facility Operations throughout New York City.
Jack was a 40-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 94 and Chapter 1 of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of New York City, reaching the Apex of his Operation Skills as the original building superintendent of the World Trade Center (Twin Towers). After 15 years at the World Trade Center, Jack moved on and managed several prime properties and Class “A” Office buildings in Manhattan. Jack was also a youth basketball coach and an accomplished swimmer. As a long-time visitor to Columbia County and the greater Bloomsburg area who enjoyed both the beautiful rural scenery and the friendly people of the area, upon his retirement Jack decided to relocate to Benton and settled into the community enjoying his friends and companionship as well as sitting in as Santa Claus at the Old Filling Station and the Benton Senior Center.
Jack now joins his mother, Kathryn, and father, Evans, along with wife, Sandy, who passed in 1989, second wife, Trudy, who passed in 2010, and his daughter Jack Lyn in eternal rest.
He is survived by his sons Dennis of Beacon Falls, CT, and Richard of Silver Spring, MD as well as 6 grandchildren: Austin and his wife Julia of Stavanger, Norway, Christopher and his wife Sarah of Manassas, VA, Megan and her husband Kenny of Frederick, MD, Brian of New Milford, CT, Kevin of New Milford, CT, Rachel of New Milford, CT, Lindsey of Rochester, NY; a great-grandson Aiden of New Milford, CT, and his beloved rescued Canaan Dog, Magic.
Jack’s services are private and instead of flowers, Jack requested that donations be made to Keepers Haven Animal Sanctuary that is run by his grandson, Christopher, and his wife Sarah in Manassas, VA.
