James E. "Jim" Harvey, 88, of rural Benton (Jackson Township), died Sunday morning, January 26, 2025 at his home.
Born November 11, 1936 in Benton, he was a son of the late Andrew and Florence (Stevens) Harvey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gloria Y. (Hess) Harvey on November 9, 2021.
Jim was a 1953 graduate of Benton High School, and he spent his entire life working in Benton. He operated a barber shop for many years, and in 1972, he became a Prudential Insurance Agent. In 1989, he started the Harvey Insurance Agency, and he continued working as an Erie Agent until his retirement in 2003.
Jim truly enjoyed the outdoors. As an avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, which included trips to the West, Canada and Alaska.
For many years, he was a member of the Stillwater Christian Church, and later became a preaching Elder at the Lungerville Christian Church. Jim's faith was very important to him and was evident to all who knew him.
Surviving are two sons: James Andrew Harvey and his wife, Barbara, of Sunbury and Allan W. Harvey and his wife, Kathy, of Benton. Also surviving are four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Carl, Arden, and A. Clair Harvey. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 11 A.M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road (State Route 487), Benton, with Pastor Michael Woolcock officiating. Burial will be in the Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township. A viewing will be held Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at 11 A.M. at McMichael's. The family would like to extend their special thanks to Geisinger Hospice.
