James Sollenberger Obituary

James J. Sollenberger, age 75, of Benton Township, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 25th, 2021 after losing his 20 year battle to cancer surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born January 16, 1946 to the late Jay A. Sollenberger and Nadine E. Null Sollengberger of York, PA.

Jim attended schools in the York area until he was 17 and then proudly joined the U. S. Army to serve his country.  He served in Germany for three years in the communication field.

After leaving the service, Jim returned home to York and worked for his Dad at Electroplaters family business until he got an urge to travel.  He worked his way down the east coast to Florida working odd jobs along the way.  He worked as a machinist at Kaydee Tool and assembled the tail on the B52 Bomber.  He later worked at PP&L from 1986 until his retirement in 2008 after 22 years of service.

Jim was a Christian man and tried to live his life the best he could.  He had a heart of gold and love his family.

Jim belonged to the Northeast Beekeepers Association where he rescued bees and along with his granddaughter, Britny, had 8 hives at one time.  He loved spending time at his camper in Delaware and fishing, clamming and crabbing off his pontoon boat in Rehoboth Bay.

Jim will be remembered by all those that knew him as a sweet and loving soul.

He married his wife of 20 years, Charlotte (Wright) Sollenberger in 2001.  Along with his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by five children:  Nathan J. and Brenton J. (Kristen) Sollenberger of the Lancaster area; Rick Babb, Jennifer Moreno-Perez and Stephanie Earnest (Shawn) of the Benton area.  His nine grandchildren:  Michael Babb and Jonathan Babb, of Danville; Rickie Moreno-Perez, of Bloomsburg; Britny Earnest, Benton; Leigha Moreno-Perez, of Bloomsburg; Uriah Sollenberger, Ezra Sollenberger, Ava Sollenberger, of Landisville; and his little man, Brody Earnest of Benton.  Jim has two great granddaughters:  Ava Babb of Danville and Eliani Carela, of Bloomsburg.  Also surviving are his siblings:  John Sollenberger of Doylestown; Elsie Brooks of York and Linda Burnham of Emigsville; a sister-in-law, Barbara Jo Wright of Berwick; a brother-in-law, Joseph (Sherry Wright), of Austin, Texas and Tony Wright of Benton.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda; a brother, David; a nephew Michael; a niece, Amy, as well as his mother-in-law, Eva Wright.

The family is planning a celebration of his life at a later date.  The McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., of Benton, is honored to serve the Sollenberger Family.  For online condolences or for additional information, please visit our website:  www.mcmichaelfuneralhome.com
