Jeanne Keller Obituary

Jeanne Louise (Schupp) Keller, 93, of Benton, died Friday, April 28, 2023 at Fritzingertown Senior Living  Community in Drums, PA.  Born in Nanticoke, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Peg) Mills Schupp.

Mrs. Keller attended the one-room schoolhouse in Stairville and was a graduate of Benton High School, Class of 1947.  In her younger years, Jeanne worked with her parents in their poultry store in Nanticoke and Wilkes-Barre.

On October 28, 1949, she married the late Allen Keller, Sr., and in 1960, moved with her husband and children to Maryland, where Allen worked on developing the city of Bowie.  In 1980, Jeanne and Allen moved back to Benton in a house they built on property that had been in Jeanne’s family for over a hundred years.  Jeanne attended Benton United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Jeanne loved animals, particularly horses, and had a horse named Blaze when she was a teen.  In addition to the normal assortment of dogs and cats, she also had a grey pony and pet goose in her later years.   Jeanne was a voracious reader and particularly liked British history science fiction.   While in Pennsylvania, Jeanne and her mother grew many exotic plants in their greenhouse that they showed at the Bloomsburg fair.   She loved flowers and was an avid gardener.  In addition, Jeanne painted in oils, made ceramics and stitched needlework.  Jeanne maintained wonderful, close, supportive friendships with women she knew for decades until her death.

Jeanne is survived by daughter, Cecilia “Peggy” Keller of Washington, DC and grandchildren:  Katherine Keller George (New York City) and Philip Ernest George (New Jersey) and great grandchildren: Leonid Alexander Tsitlik and Alexander David George.

In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen Keller, Sr. and  beloved sons and brother: Allen M. Keller, Jr. and John S. Keller and John L. “Jack” Schupp.
