Jeffrey Nelson Obituary

Jeffrey E. "Jeff" Nelson, 69, of rural Shickshinny (Huntington Township), died Friday, February 17, 2023 at his home.

Born June 26, 1953 in Long Branch, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Roy and Rita (Gregg) Nelson.

He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in Economics, while also running in cross country at Kings College in Wilkes-Barre.

Jeff was employed by First Columbia Bank and Trust for more than 30 years, retiring in 2018.  He had been the branch manager of the Benton office for many years and was a Vice President of the Bank.  He loved sharing "sarcastic Wednesday's" with his co-workers, who were also dear friends of his.

He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shickshinny where he served as Treasurer for many years.

Throughout his life, Jeff never lost his sense of humor.  He would crack jokes with his two grown sons, Ian and Kyle often.  He had a great ability to make others smile and laugh.  He was one of the few that could actually rise to meet a challenge with a smile.  Jeff's sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Jeff was known for his love of a good IPA beer and perfecting his crispy homemade wings.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan and actively watched many sporting events.  Jeff enjoyed traveling, playing golf and having chess matches that lasted for hours or even days.  He donated his time to the local food pantry and had been a member of the Benton Lions Club. Jeff was wholeheartedly there for those in his life and made the time to show up for everyone who reached out.  He would help with anything after he made you a pot of coffee first.

He was married to the love of his life, Brenda P. (Beaver) Nelson, who survives him.  He was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother and uncle as well as a great friend to many.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Brenda, are his two sons:  Ian and his wife, Cara, of Hunlock Creek; Kyle, of Yachats, Oregon; his twin brother:  Gregg Nelson, of Vancouver, Washington; a sister, Vera Hisker and her husband, William, of Greensburg, PA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Jesse and by two nephews:  William and Joseph Hisker.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date with Rev. Jim Parks, his Pastor, officiating.  Burial in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Huntington Township.  We would like to thank all of our friends and family for their support and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Shickshinny, c/o Robert Ruckle, P. O. Box 13, Shickshinny, PA 18655.
