Jerry Fritz Obituary

Jerry Dean Fritz, 79, of Rt. 118 Highway, Benton, died Tuesday morning, July 30th, 2019 at the Gatehouse Inpatient Hospice at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, surrounded by his loving family.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
 
Born July 28, 1940 in Benton, he was a son of the late Clyde L. Fritz, who died March 18, 1994 and Annabelle V. (Bachman) Fritz, who died November 21, 1990.  He and his wife, Peggy J. (Robbins) Fritz, would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on September 28th.
 
Mr. Fritz was a 1958 graduate of Benton High School.  Following high school, he served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1958 to 1961.  He was later a 1966 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teacher's College where he earned his B. S. degree in business and in 1968 received his master’s degree from Bloomsburg.
 
He taught business at the Hughesville High School from 1966 to 1993 when he retired.  He also coached Jr. High wrestling, track and field at Hughesville.
 
Mr. Fritz was a member of the former Salem United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee.  He was also a member and a former treasurer of the Unityville Fire Company.  He also served on the Salem Cemetery Board.
 
An avid sportsman, he lettered in wrestling, soccer and baseball in high school for four years.  He played baseball for the former North Branch League and also played for the championship softball team for the U. S. Navy.  He also enjoyed hunting, archery and playing golf.  Following his retirement, he worked for the Mill Race Golf Course in Benton.  In his younger years he was a cub master, Webelo leader, 4-H Leader and umpired for the Benton youth baseball league.
 
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Peggy, are his three children:  Doug Fritz and his wife, Tina, of Chesterfield, VA; Jennifer D. Buck and her husband, Rodney, of Hughesville; Jonathan D. Fritz and his wife, Radelle, of Duncannon, PA and his six grandchildren:  Ashley and Colton Fritz, Addison and Chase Fritz and Sarah and Jacob Buck and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was the last of his immediate family and along with his parents, was preceded in death by the following siblings:  Robert A. "Wiffle" Fritz, Sr., Norma A. Raski, Carl A. Fritz, Mahlon L. Fritz, Sr., and C. Larue Fritz.
 
Private graveside services and military honors will be accorded at the Salem Cemetery, Unityville.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Gatehouse Home Care and Hospice, c/o Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
