Joanna (Cheon) Sarisky, of Millville, passed away on Saturday morning, November 5, 2022 with her husband and family by her side. Born on November 8th in Paterson NJ and raised in Clifton NJ, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Joanna (Yablonski) Cheon. She was also predeceased by her brothers Fredric and Ronald.
She is survived by her loving husband of more than 55 years, Robert, her daughters Kimberly (husband Mark Slear), Kara (husband Kerry McWilliam), son Justin (and his wife Karrie, who she loved as a third daughter). She will be greatly missed by her grandsons (also known as “her boys”) Aleksander, Aidan and Adam Matunis, Jansen and Landen Sarisky, her aunt Anna Eustice, brother-in-law Ted Grzybowski, longtime friend Bobbie Gordner, and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joanna graduated from Clifton High School at the age of 16. She and Bob were married August 26,1967 in St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. They resided in NJ and San Jose CA before they “bought the farm” in Millville PA in 1975. Through the course of her life Joanna held many positions. She attended beauty school and waitressed prior to becoming a realtor with Rothstein Gallery of Homes and Villager Realty. She and Bob owned Penn Pride Provisions and Unity Market in Unityville for many years. She retired from Keystone School in 2016 and remained friends with most of her coworkers. If you met Joanna, you had a friend for life.
Joanna’s favorite hobbies were hosting family gatherings and getting together with her cousins for adventures including trips to Italy and Poland. She loved watching youth sports and plays that her boys were in. She also loved books, crossword puzzles, playing cards, cooking, long phone calls, the colors of the Autumn leaves and Christmas shopping. Most of all she loved people. She will be greatly missed.
Joanna’s viewing will be held Friday from 5 to 7 PM at McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, (State Route 487) Benton and Saturday morning beginning at 10 AM at McMichael's. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 12th, 2022 at 11 AM at Christ the King Church in Benton with family friend, Father James Lease, as Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Danville PA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Joanna’s name to The Columbia County Traveling Library, 702 Sawmill Rd., Suite 101, Bloomsburg PA 17815 so that others may continue to enjoy her love of reading.
