Joyce V. (Evans) Keller, 91, of Stillwater, left this earthly world to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Sunset Ridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with family members present. Born in Luzerne County on August 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Helen M. (Hess) Evans.
Joyce graduated from Benton High School with the Class of 1949 and went on to attend the Nesbitt Nursing School, graduating with an R.N. degree in 1953. On February 14th of that same year, she wed her beloved husband, Ronnie Keller. During her years working as a nurse, Joyce, also called Gram, worked at various places doing what she loved to do. Her dedicated passion was taking care of others. She returned to school to further her career as a cardiac care nurse. Later, she was one of the first to open the Bloomsburg Cardiac Rehab center. Everyone knew the rehab center as "Joyce's Torture Chamber." This sentimental quip was out of nothing but respect for Gram's caring nature and respect for her patients. She was a faithful member of the Benton Christian Church, where she held many positions during her service there. She was also a member of Eastern Star. Joyce enjoyed reading, knitting, doing cross stitch, and playing cards with friends and family. She had been the score keeper for the Stillwater Cardinals, North Branch, while her husband was coaching the team for twenty years and she took great joy in being a Phillies fan.
Surviving Joyce are her two children: David Keller (Kim) and Susan McHenry (Jay); grandchildren: Mikelanne Welliver (Michael), Jayson McHenry, and Lindsey Keller; great-grandchildren: Mae, Kolbe, Carson, Emma, and Rylinn; great-great-granddaughter, Althea; a sister, Carolyn Remley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Ronnie Keller, who passed away July 6, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Evans.
Joyce's family would like to thank Sunset Ridge for the excellent care and passion shown by everyone.
We will miss you Mom, Gram. Godspeed.
There will be a graveside ceremony 3:00 PM Friday, June 23, 2023 at Stillwater Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Stillwater.
