Karen E. (Schmidt) Smythe, 81, of rural Stillwater, died Tuesday morning, October 23, 2018 at the Bonham Nursing Center where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born on April 17, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip H. Kyrouz, on September 9, 1988.
She was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she earned her master's degree in education. She was a school teacher in New Bedford, Massachusetts for many years.
Karen was of the Episcopalian faith. Her hobbies included crafts and gardening and she was a Biologist. She also loved spending time with her cats.
Surviving, are her daughter, Heather C. Zika and her husband, Mark, of rural Stillwater; a son, Joseph Philip Kyrouz, of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Britta Brown, on April 9, 2008.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 27th, 2018 at 11 A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with Pastor Scott L. Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating. A Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 at McMichael's.
